I imagine a haven for groups of friends to enjoy a little time out for themselves doing something fun and creative in a beautifully designed space with dainty china and delicious treats. It's no surprise then, that when a friend approached me for advice about hosting afternoon tea at home for a baby shower, I jumped at the chance to take care of the styling and catering.
It's no small feat preparing afternoon tea - the sheer number of fillings, spreads, toppings and bases that need to be made and the order in which to prepare them is not for the faint hearted, and it's the ultimate patience test when things aren't going right, as I learned on the job! I have a new found empathy for the bakers on The Great Kiwi Bake off under the pump to serve up the best of the best.
After a fair amount of anxiety and new found confidence in the kitchen, I was absolutely delighted with the final result and it was such a dream to see how excited our gorgeous mum-to-be was about what awaited her...her first ever high tea experience.
