Afternoon Tea at The Berry Berry Nice Cafe, Petone

Afternoon tea at The Berry Berry Nice Café in Petone is a delightful escape from the ordinary.

Every detail of the experience has been taken into consideration and is very much on brand. From the strawberry infused sparkling wine served in beautiful gold-trimmed stemware and the boysenberry sweet included with tea and coffee, to the made-from-scratch savories and stunning patisserie - it all makes for a delightful afternoon in a spacious but cosy and elegant space.

As frequent takers of high tea, afternoon tea at The Berry Berry Nice Cafe wasn't as we had come to know it - in all the right ways. Instead of seated together, spanning the edges of one big table, we spread out in smaller groups, tucked cozily into the booths. This allowed a more intimate setting and engaging conversation as a bigger group.

We placed our orders for tea, coffee or bubbles and were seated while our food was prepared. Not long after our drinks were served platter after platter, plate after plate began to line the buffet table with everything from Jane's perfect home made chicken and mushroom or chunky steak and cheese pies to soft egg or chicken sandwiches, asparagus rolls and a creative mexican prawn tortilla delight.

Jane officially welcomed us, sharing that this space has been a dream in the making for more than 19 years - 19 years of refinement of the vision for what is today I am sure.

The sweets were delicately prepared by their talented Le Cordon Bleu trained patisserie chef and included berry and dark chocolate macarons with just the right amount of berry punch in the centre. We were spoilt for choice gazing upon plates of gorgeous opera cake, strawberry mousse or lemon curd eclairs to choose from.

It's safe to say that not one of us left hungry. Jane made sure we were taken care of and it made for a fun, cozy, elegant and delicious afternoon. We can't wait to come back - maybe next time to try out the cocktail list!
